The right choice depends on floor count, shaft space, and whether you’re retrofitting or building new. We recommend a system only after seeing your space in person.

HYDRAULIC

A fluid-driven piston raises the cabin, either directly beneath the car or via a roped side-mount. Very smooth ride and high load capacity, with lower mechanical complexity.

BEST FOR

Low-rise homes, 2–4 stops

TRACTION

Steel ropes or belts run over a motorized sheave, counterbalanced by a weight. Machine-room-less units fit inside a shaft with no separate plant room.

BEST FOR

Tight retrofits, taller travel

GLASS / PANORAMIC

A hydraulic or traction drive inside a transparent, self-supporting steel-and-glass structure that doesn’t require a load-bearing masonry shaft.

Retrofit or new build?

Most enquiries are retrofits. A compact MRL traction unit or self-supporting glass shaft can often fit inside an existing stairwell void or an external shaft against an exterior wall, without major structural rebuilding. New-construction projects let us plan the shaft and pit from the drawings stage. Either way, the first step is a physical site visit — not a guess from a floor plan.
