Elevator Installation Services in Lebanon

Installing an elevator is a structural project as much as a mechanical one.

Shaft dimensions, pit depth, headroom, electrical supply, and the building's daily traffic all decide which system will actually work and installing it wrong is expensive to undo. Ecolift has been surveying, engineering, and installing lifts in Lebanon for more than 50 years, using our own site engineers and technicians rather than subcontracted crews, so the team that measures your shaft is the same team that commissions the finished lift.

Below is exactly how an installation runs from first call to handover, which lift types we install, and what to check before you sign a contract with anyone.

The Process

How Installation Works, Step by Step

Step 01 – Free site survey and feasibility check

Before we quote anything, an engineer visits the site to measure available shaft or pit space, headroom, existing structural openings, and electrical capacity. In older Beirut buildings that were never built with a shaft, this step decides whether a self-supporting structure or a machine-room-less (MRL) unit can be retrofitted without major demolition.

Step 02 – Engineering and system selection

We calculate expected passenger or load traffic (critical for offices, clinics, and residential towers with peak-hour queuing) and match it against travel height, available pit depth, and power supply to recommend traction, hydraulic, or MRL and explain the trade-offs in cost, speed, and space rather than defaulting to one system.

Step 03 – Permit and approval coordination

Elevator installations in Lebanon typically require sign-off from the relevant municipal and civil defense authorities before the lift is put into service. We prepare the technical documentation your project needs for that approval process; your architect or contractor should confirm the specific requirements that apply to your building and district.

Step 04 – Procurement and component staging

Because we stock common components and spare parts locally in Beirut, standard installations aren't held up waiting on customs clearance for routine parts. Only genuinely custom cabin finishes or non-standard equipment require longer lead times, and we'll tell you upfront if that applies to your job.

Step 05 – Installation and commissioning

Our own technicians handle rail alignment, cabin fitting, wiring, and control system commissioning on-site. A straightforward residential or low-rise passenger installation typically runs a few weeks from delivery of equipment to handover; high-rise, heavy-duty goods lifts, or projects requiring shaft construction take longer. We'll give you a project-specific timeline in writing before work starts, not a generic estimate.

Step 06 – Testing, certification, and handover

Every lift is load-tested and checked against EN 81-20 (Safety rules for the construction and installation of new lifts) and EN 81-50 (Testing and examination of lift components) before we sign it off, including the emergency alarm and communication system. You get commissioning documentation, a warranty on the installation, and a walkthrough of the controls and emergency procedures with your building staff.

What We Install

Elevator and Lift Types We Install

Passenger and commercial elevators

Traffic-calculated systems for offices, hospitals, and multi-tenant buildings where downtime isn't an option sized to actual peak-hour demand rather than a standard default cab.

Home and residential elevators

Compact traction or MRL units that fit into existing villas and apartments, often without a dedicated machine room, for households where stairs have become a barrier for elderly parents or family members with reduced mobility.

Goods and vehicle elevators

Reinforced cabins and higher load ratings for warehouses, retail back-of-house, and multi-level parking, engineered around the actual weights and dimensions they'll carry daily rather than a passenger-lift frame adapted after the fact.

Escalators and moving walkways

For malls, airports, and hospitals with continuous foot traffic installed with anti-slip steps, emergency braking, and step-gap sensors to European safety standards.

Accessibility lifts

Inclined platform lifts for staircases that can't be widened, indoor stair lifts, and wheelchair platform lifts for buildings retrofitting for accessibility compliance.

Dumbwaiters and automatic doors

Small-format lifts for restaurants, laundries, and offices moving goods between floors, plus sliding and revolving entrance doors often specified alongside a new lobby elevator.

      FAQs

How long does elevator installation take in Lebanon?

It depends on the system and the building. A standard passenger or home elevator in a building with an existing shaft typically takes a few weeks from equipment delivery to commissioning. Projects that require constructing a new shaft, or high-rise and heavy-duty goods lifts, take longer. You'll receive a timeline specific to your site after the survey, not a generic figure.

Can you install an elevator in an older building that was never built with a shaft?

Often, yes. Machine-room-less (MRL) systems and self-supporting shaft structures are commonly used to retrofit elevators into older Beirut buildings without a pre-existing lift well. Whether it's feasible for your specific building depends on available floor space, ceiling heights, and structural load points which is exactly what the free site survey is for.

How do I know if I need a traction, hydraulic, or MRL elevator?

It comes down to travel height, available pit depth, power supply, and budget. Hydraulic systems generally suit lower-rise buildings with limited pit depth; traction and MRL systems handle greater heights more efficiently and use less energy over time. We walk through the trade-offs for your specific building rather than defaulting to one system.

Do I need a permit or civil defense approval to install an elevator in Lebanon?

Generally yes new lift installations require sign-off from the relevant municipal and civil defense authorities before the lift can be put into service. We prepare the technical documentation for that process; confirm the exact requirements for your district with your architect, contractor, or the municipality, since procedures can vary by location.

How much does elevator installation cost?

Cost depends on lift type, load capacity, travel height, whether a shaft already exists, and cabin finish. We don't quote sight unseen pricing follows the free site survey so the number reflects your building, not an average.

Is maintenance included after installation, or is that a separate contract?

Installation and ongoing maintenance are separate services. We offer maintenance contracts once your lift is commissioned, and because our own team installed it, they already know the system when a service call comes in.
