Passenger Elevator
A passenger elevator is a smart investment that removes the daily hassle of climbing stairs while lowering the chance of slips, falls, and injuries. Yet, over the years, wear and technical faults can gradually appear. Ecolift in Lebanon provides complete maintenance, modernization, and repair solutions to keep your passenger lift running smoothly.
Purpose and usage
Passenger elevators are essential in public buildings, offices, and residential towers where moving between floors quickly and safely matters most. They simplify daily routines, ease foot traffic, and allow people to transport heavier items with little effort. The core purpose behind a passenger lift is to create a reliable vertical system that carries occupants smoothly up and down. With proper care, the average service life of a passenger elevator ranges from 20 to 25 years. In short, they make everyday movement more convenient, comfortable, and accessible for everyone.
Types of Passenger lifts
You can use different types of elevators as passenger lifts. You can choose any type of passenger lift according to your needs. These lifts can easily be installed at any commercial, residential, or public building. Following are the main types of the passenger lifts.
- Machine roomless traction (MRL)
- Industrial Elevators

FLOOR 02 — THE RANGE
One lift does not fit every building
We calculate the traffic, look at the shaft (or the space for one), and match the drive, capacity and speed to the building instead of forcing every project into a single model.
01
01 • MRL TRACTION
Machine-room-less
The gearless machine sits inside the shaft, so you keep the space an old machine room used to take. Energy-efficient, quiet and smooth the default for most modern buildings.
Best for: Residential & commercial mid-rise
02
02 • TRACTION
Machine-room traction
Geared or gearless, used where a machine room already exists or a taller, heavier-duty travel is needed. Proven, serviceable and built for high rise.
Best for: High-rise & heavy duty
03
03 • HYDRAULIC
Hydraulic passenger lift
Simple and robust, for low-rise buildings of a few floors, heavier loads, or where shaft headroom is limited.
Best for: Low-rise & tight shafts
04
04 • PANORAMIC
Panoramic / glass cabin
For lobbies, malls and hotels where the ride is part of the architecture and passengers expect a view.
Best for: Hotels, malls, feature lobbies

FLOOR 03 — THE SERVICE
Four services that cover the whole life of a passenger lift
From an empty shaft to a lift that's still running two decades later the same team handles every stage, so the engineer who commissions your lift is the one who knows it when it needs attention.
01. Installation
From an empty shaft, or a set of drawings, to a lift that passes handover. We run the traffic study, select the drive and cabin, coordinate the shaft, pit and wiring, commission the safety systems, and run the load test that proves the car stops level and stops safely. One team, from survey to sign-off.
Site survey & traffic study
Shaft / pit coordination
Supply & installation
Safety commissioning
Load test & handover docs
02. Maintenance
A stopped elevator is a stopped building, so most of our work is making sure it never stops in the first place. Planned visits check the drive, the door operators (the single most common source of faults), safety gear, levelling, ropes and controls catching wear before it becomes a breakdown. Every contract sits behind the same 24/7 emergency line.
Scheduled preventive visits
Door & levelling adjustment
Safety-system checks
Service log for your committee
Wear-part replacement
Priority emergency call-out
03. Modernization
When a lift is mechanically tired, but the shaft is sound, modernising is far cheaper than rebuilding, and it buys another 15 to 20 years. We replace the controller, drive, door operators and fixtures, sharpen ride quality and levelling, cut energy use, and bring safety up to current expectations, usually keeping the existing shaft, with far less downtime than a full replacement.
New controller & drive
Door operator upgrade
Ride & levelling improvement
Cabin refresh
Energy reduction
Safety modernization
04. Repair
When something does go wrong, response time is everything. Because we stock spare parts in Beirut and run our own crews, we're not waiting weeks on an import to get your building moving. We diagnose the real cause, not just the symptom; fix it, and tell you honestly whether the machine is worth repairing or is asking to be modernised.
Emergency breakdowns
Door faults
Levelling & ride problems
Out-of-service lifts
Control & drive faults
Noise & vibration
- FLOOR 04 — SAFETY
A passenger lift carries people. Safety isn't a feature; it's the point.
We design, install and maintain to internationally recognised standards such as the EN 81 series, the benchmark modern passenger elevators are held to. Every safety system is checked on our maintenance visits, not just at handover.
Systems we fit and check
- Overspeed governor & safety gear - grips the rails and stops the car if it ever moves too fast.
- Pit buffers at the bottom of the shaft.
- Door light curtain - stops the doors on the smallest obstruction.
- Automatic Rescue Device (ARD) - on a power cut, levels the car to the nearest floor and opens the doors.
- Two-way emergency communication and alarm.
- Accurate levelling - no step to trip on at the landing.
- FLOOR 05 — ECOLIFT
The thing that matters most isn't the brochure. It's who answers the phone when a lift stops on a Friday night.
Ecolift Elevator long known in Lebanon as Sukkar Elevators Co. has kept buildings moving here for over fifty years. That experience is why we do the whole job ourselves.
One team, no subcontractors
We survey, install, service and modernise every lift ourselves. Accountability never gets handed off to someone else.
Spares stocked in Beirut
A repair is a same-week job, not a month-long wait on an import. Local stock keeps your building moving.
Answered at 3 a.m.
Round-the-clock emergency call-out across Lebanon because lifts don't fail on a schedule.
Fair, transparent pricing
A lift is a major investment. We quote it honestly and never cut corners on safety to hit a number.
Every kind of building
Residential towers, offices, hospitals, hotels and shopping centres we've worked across all of them.
Honest advice
If your lift needs modernising rather than replacing, we'll say so. The cheaper right answer is still the right answer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Find quick answers to the most common questions about our products, services, and process. We’re here to make everything simple and easy for you.
What size elevator does a commercial building in Lebanon actually need?
It depends more on floors served and peak-hour foot traffic than on building type alone. A boutique office might only need a small passenger cabin; a hospital or hotel usually needs a higher-capacity car plus a separate service elevator. We size this during a free site survey rather than quoting a number sight unseen.
Do Ecolift's commercial elevators meet recognized safety standards?
Installations are designed and carried out in line with European EN 81 lift safety standards the same reference point applied across Ecolift’s escalator installations covering door protection, overspeed governors, and emergency communication.
What happens to the elevator during a power outage?
Commercial installations include backup power that automatically brings the cabin to the nearest floor and opens the doors, so a blackout doesn’t leave anyone stuck between floors.
Can you install a machine-room-less elevator in an older building that wasn't built with a shaft?
In many cases, yes. MRL systems need less overhead clearance and no dedicated machine room, which is why they’re the usual recommendation for retrofitting elevators into older Beirut commercial buildings.
What's included in a commercial maintenance contract?
Scheduled inspections, priority emergency call-out, and access to locally stocked spare parts, carried out by Ecolift’s own technicians rather than a subcontractor. Full details are on the Elevator Maintenance page.
How long does installing a commercial elevator take?
It depends on whether it’s new construction or a retrofit, and how many floors are served. A project-specific schedule is confirmed after the site survey, not before it.
Can one elevator handle both passengers and goods, or do we need two separate systems?
Hotels and hospitals often run a passenger bank alongside a separate service elevator sized for carts, deliveries, or beds, so passenger and service traffic don’t compete for the same car. We help decide which setup a building needs during the site survey.
